Unearthing Sunshine
I want her
to take my hand
lead me into the garden
tell me she’s sorry.
That if things
had been different
we would have been
good friends.
That her harsh words
were barriers
to clarify her lack of interest
rather than insults.
That the sunshine
she unearthed in me
deserves to shine
once more.
That she can lift
this heavy burden
of being unloved
reinvigorate my passion
for life.
But as I watch her
flit about, laugh with others
I know she doesn’t care
about an insignificant guy
who had a crush on her.
That it’s me who’s responsible
for unearthing the sunshine
buried beneath
this rubble.
