Flight of the Cabbage White
Two white wisps
dance a whirlwind flutter
following no rehearsed steps
only curiosity.
The journey begins alone
sampling unknown wilds
marigold yellows
and gumtree greens.
In mid-flight
a partner joins the jig
best friends for minutes
strangers for a lifetime.
A rest on fragile petals
reveals what this ballet hides:
a black dot and stripe
impurity against chaste white.
Moments later a newcomer
lands atop the resting traveller
commencing a new dance
in life’s brief intimacy.
