From Womb to Tomb
Freed from the cage
of our mother’s womb
we’re trapped in
prams, cribs, and highchairs
screaming and throwing food
in protest.
When we gain our legs
we’re imprisoned in
crèches, schools, and corporations
so we can earn enough
to seal ourselves in
houses, cars, and trains.
Once we’re too old
to walk and talk
we’re confined in
wheelchairs, hospices, and our minds
awaiting the long journey
to our final enclosure:
our coffin.
