With a deep passion for storytelling and over a decade’s worth of professional storytelling research and experience, A. R. Levett can offer you Story Mentoring sessions to improve your manuscript as well as provide Workshops and Courses that teach you how to become a better storyteller.
Story Mentoring
Story Mentoring consists of three services: Story Review, Revision, and Copy Editing.
Are you unsure of your story’s quality? Have a first draft that you don’t know what to do with? Then you need a Story Review, traditionally called a Manuscript Assessment. During this process, A. R. Levett reads your draft manuscript and uses his knowledge to offer you tips on how to improve it to a publishable level and suggests your next step. Story Reviews begin from $40.
Having trouble with your completed story? Need help determining how to fix unforeseen problems? Then a Revision, also called a Substantive Edit, will resolve these issues and any problems you may not recognise. During the process, A. R. Levett performs in-depth readings of your manuscript and offers comprehensive feedback on the story’s flow, structure, point-of-view, content, tone, and style before condensing any unnecessarily wordy writing and applying uniform formatting to the manuscript. He also provides a detailed report with suggestions for resolving any issues. Revisions begin from $160.
Need help locating the grammar and punctuation errors in your story? Then before you send your manuscript to a publisher, get a Copy Edit done. This process involves A. R. Levett reading through your completed manuscript word by word, line by line, ensuring the grammar and punctuation are correct, the language is consistent throughout, and that each word holds its weight. Copy Editing costs from $85.
Workshops
A. R. Levett offers a variety of single, three-hour Workshops, during which participants will apply the theories to their existing stories through a series of engaging writing exercises.
Unsure how to become an author and publish a book? Need some advice and tools to set you on your path? How to Become a Successful Author dispels the myths about becoming an author, reveals a realistic path to becoming one, divulges the important tools necessary for budding authors, and offers writing exercises to inspire you. This workshop is free.
Struggling to develop a strong idea for a story? Unsure if your existing idea is worth developing? Developing a Potent Story Premise guides participants through the process of developing a strong story idea, from brainstorming techniques, determining your most potent idea, and understanding an idea’s inherent challenges, to locating its central character and their arc, determining the central conflict and ending, and verifying its commercial viability.
Does something about your story not seem right? Having trouble structuring it? Charting the Hero’s Journey reveals how applying the Hero’s Journey story structure to participants’ stories gives them universal appeal and resolves many structural problems. The workshop maps out each of the twelve Hero’s Journey stages, demonstrates them at work in existing stories, and reveals how it corresponds with classic three-act story structure.
Afraid of what feedback groups will say about your stories? Don’t understand how to give useful feedback to other writers? Mastering the Art of Story Critiquing helps participants overcome their fears by revealing what is and isn’t appropriate feedback, demonstrating the different levels of critiquing, unveiling how to deal with negative feedback, and locating appropriate critique groups.
Want to write a powerful story? Does the complexity of language often get in your way? Crash Course in the Craft of Writing will set you straight, simplifying the complexities of language, teaching you how to use the eight parts of language and punctuation so that your prose stands out from the crowd.
Each workshop cost $45 per person.
