Hopeless
When the rock beneath you
crumbles into sand
and you start slipping
feet unable to
find purchase on once solid ground
arms wave around
seeking balance,
purchase,
the attention
of someone nearby
who has the power
to pull you out
prevent the
inevitable slide
into the oblivion
of anxiety
but they just
stand there
blank faced
offering platitudes
that have no effect
and don’t move
a muscle.
